BAYONNE MEDICAL CENTER PATIENT SATISFACTION SURVEYS SHOW FAVORABLE RESULTS WHILE GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

High patient satisfaction reflects investments in Emergency Department while randomly awarded food cards reflect gratitude to the community

Bayonne, NJ - December [9], 2008 - Bayonne Medical Center (BMC) has chosen the holiday season to combine its commitment to providing quality health care with its desire to give back to the community by awarding a $100 ShopRite gift certificate each month to a randomly chosen participant in the hospital's Emergency Department patient satisfaction survey program.

Bayonne resident Kimberly Coletta was the winner of the first monthly drawing, which took place December 8. Coletta visited the hospital's Emergency Department with her son in November.

Early results of the surveys given to patients visiting the BMC Emergency Department show that 97 percent would visit again when in need of emergency care and/or would recommend the Bayonne Medical Center Emergency Department to others. The surveys also show that the average time for a patient to see a physician is 29 minutes, below the hospital's stated goal of 30 minutes.

BMC is using the patient satisfaction surveys to measure the success of the investment the hospital has made in improvements to its Emergency Department, including streamlining admissions, hiring additional personnel and improving the look of the welcome and reception areas.

"Ninety percent of the patients who are admitted to Bayonne Medical Center come through our Emergency Department," said Daniel Kane, BMC president and chief executive officer. "This is the gateway where we set the standard for the health care we are committed to providing and which the community deserves. The early results of our surveys show that we have made great strides in meeting our patients' expectations."

The hospital has been conducting the patient satisfaction surveys since mid-November. Patients may participate anonymously or may provide their names and contact information and become eligible for the monthly drawing for the $100 ShopRite gift card.
